They had a huge referendum in the State in the early 2000's to change it. Had Jesse and Al whipping up a firestorm leading up to the vote. On Election Day black voters didn't show up. That's why you don't hear the outcry from the NAACP now. They said "y'all had your chance". I am indifferent to it personally but the current flag was voted for by an overwhelming majority of voters in the state so it seems to be the flag the people want.

I thought at the time that what killed it was the insinuation that yankee businesses would be reluctant to set up shop in Mississippi because of the flag. (And the people rejoiced.) It will change someday, but never, ever because of Northern influence.

Plus, the alternative was meh.
