The best CFB in the modern era is 1995 Nebraska.

It's not even debatable.

They didn't give up a single sack all year. ZERO sacks.

They averaged 400 yards rushing per game, they beat 4 top 10 teams by an average margin of like 28 points.

They were excellent at defense, offense, and special teams.

They only trailed twice all year, for a grand total of like 7 minutes or something nuts and never trailed in the 2nd half of a game.

And honestly anyone that watched that team knows that they rested their starters all the time in the 2nd half when they were up semi-big.

No one is even close. 1995 Nebraska would have beat the living shite out of just about anyone else they played. Ever.

The closest game they played? It was one of those flukey games that good teams have every year. They fumbled inside the 5 on the first drive, and then WSU scored one or two plays later on a long run, their only decent run of the game.

They were sloppy all day that game, and still won 35-21, with WSU scoring late and the back ups fumbling at the 5 again.

Even when they played badly they won games by 2 Tds and had the back ups in late in the game.

Very hard to argue against what they did and they were FAR better than '83 squad. Way overrated IMO.

Nebraska was a machine for 4 years 94-97 3 titles and the down year was 11-2 Orange Bowl winner. Texas pulled off one of the greatest 4th down plays in CFB or its Nebraska vs Florida in the Sugar.
