I think some people overrate the past. Programs do die (Nebraska, Minnesota, etc.).

Programs can indeed die but it takes quite awhile to say that.

Like it's clear Minnesota died, as they have essentially sucked big time for 50 years and have been bad longer than they were good.

It's too early to give up on Nebraska though, they were winning and playing for multiple national championship just about 15 years ago.

There were many people calling Alabama "dead" during the Shula years and we see hot hat worked out.

Historically good programs are usually one great coach from being back.

Programs do "die", but so do people. It doesn't mean that their accomplishments are not worth remembering or even learning from.
