Gary Johnson is not now, nor will he ever be electable. Seniors vote, and vote en masse. No one who wants to reduce or eliminate social security and medicare is going to get their support.
He'll get some votes from those who want to decriminalize some drugs and make others completely legal, some others from top earners, and votes from those few with true libertarian ideals.
And since it's a presidential election, every single one of them will have wasted their vote. Until you can win state, local, and congressional seats, there can be no such thing as a legitimate third party candidate.

A wasted vote is voting for the lesser of two evils even though you don't like either candidate. My vote for Gary Johnson is not a wasted vote. It would be a waste if I resorted to voting for one of two candidates that I absolutely hate and disagree with on almost everything.
There are millions of people who say "I would vote for Johnson, but he doesn't stand a chance." Well, maybe if all of these people who agree with Johnson but won't vote for him because they don't think he stands a chance would actually vote... well, me might stand a chance.
