None of that had any impact at a national level. Literally nobody outside of A&M knew or cared. Ask the rant how many know about this vs know about Kyler, Allen, Sumlin's alcoholism, Manziel's pandering, etc.
The issue here is national perception.

In the same time period the national perception of Texas A&M was "that team with the cool Mike Leach coach." We were basically invisible nationally, and that was a real problem. Much much bigger than any problems that can be fixed just by firing one guy.
