Yeah definitely go for a restaurant...or even a bar for a quick drink then you can leave after one round

This- since you think he may be a bit of a hothead. You can just be polite and say you appreciate the invite but that you and your lady would both feel more comfortable meeting out. You could even ask his opinion on what place would be good. Hopefully he'd respect that.
