Apparently you're not familiar with the Old Testament where God ordered killings and the destruction of entire segments of people. Let alone the time God killed every person in the world except 7.

...but, he gave them every chance in the world to repent and turn back to him first. Just like he's giving us today. Make no mistake, though. He is righteous. Merciful, but righteous. One day, time will run out and his judgement, wrath, and condemnation will get poured out on this world. And that's just the beginning of the eternal consequences of denying Christ. I don't think atheistic (or ritualistic, for that matter) merit is gonna hold much water when we stand before God. Just who we've accepted as our King.
