Lovelady played college baseball at Miami (FL), where as a catcher and four-year letter winner, he won the 1999 College World Series and 2001 College World Series. He signed as an undrafted free agent with the Florida Marlinsorganization, and played one season with the Utica Blue Sox before turning to coaching. He served three more years at Miami, working with catchers. He's only 37 years old. His record through his 3 years at Wright State are:

45-16

He knows the South having played and coached at Miami. His team is in the Louisville regional and they eliminated Ohio State this morning. They are currently tied with Louisville in the finals.

I don't think I want our coach to be from Wright State or Alabama State. These are guys who might be good. They have done a good job where they are, but are not proven high level coaches. If we are not going to make a huge hire then I guess these guys are as good as any. I want to go get somebody who we know is going to make us a powerhouse like we should be. If we have to settle for hiring a mightbegoodcoach I think of the two I would want Lovelady over Melendez.
