That is not true. As I recall, the person who was interested in hiring his dad had a son at the time that was a walkon qb at Ole Miss. When word got out that UMMC was looking to hire the dad, it was decided at Oxford and Jackson that just the appearance of impropriety would make it seem as though it was not worth the risk.
