Exactly. UGA is hurting itself and publicly hanging kids out to dry with the only intention being to gain some sense of the moral high ground over offenses that no one cares about.

Not really. Georgia does not and should not discipline players according to what other schools do. if that were the case we would be holding team votes right now and would be well on our way to becoming Auburn. Every school does things differently.
It's not a matter of "moral high ground". It's a matter of what the school thinks is fair and correct. Moral high ground is something fans claim to make us feel better about school policies that we disagree with. But here is the thing for me. The school has set forth a policy and have told these guys what is expected. the players have been told if they violate these policies what the consequences are. If the players choose to violate those policies they should expect to face those consequences. As fans we need to quit excusing dumb behavior when players knowingly and willingly violate school/team policy.

I also understand what I am saying will get me blasted.

Look at it this way, Crow. If the police overhear a guy bragging he killed someone, (committed any other crime) they are going to investigate.

Are we seriously comparing the enforcement of a university drinking policy to the enforcement of murder?

I didn't say that. Georgia should, however, discipline players fairly. I would argue that making a football player's drinking ticket be the first thing that pops up when people google his name is cruel and unusual punishment. It doesn't matter for the guys who make the NFL, but most of them don't. They have to apply for jobs after football is over. Regular students don't get suspended from class for one underage drinking charge, at least to my knowledge. Why should athletes?

If by "differently," you mean "better," sure. Also, following that up with this:

It's not a matter of "moral high ground".

is funny.

IMO, the expectations are unrealistic and hypocritical, and the punishments are draconian.
