Because then Lattimore can't do the camps.

That's the part everyone is missing. He can be a coach, analyst, anything they want to call him but if he becomes one the he can't do the camps.

Those camps are an integral part of his ministry and he understandably doesn't want to give them up, so he can't be on the staff.

I get that. But his objection to being a coach seems to be that it's too much work. Since he apparently wants to join the staff, if his stated problem is that he doesn't know if he wants to work that hard, one assumes that he had an actual internal debate and came up with that as the primary con.
