In general I agree but in this case not so much. If anybody cares enough, Shaw will eventually be asked to explain the remark and he'll say "Aw, that was just an off-the-cuff remark that didn't mean anything." And that will be that. If a white coach had said the exact same thing, it would be on CNN right now and the headline would say "White Coach Says Southeast Blacks are Stupid".

Well, given that Stanford recruits white athletes in the South as well, maybe the headline should read:
"Coach Says Something that Makes a Bunch of People React Stupidly."
