I think they are.
-they believe in God, Jesus, and the Holy Ghost (although not in the trinity)
-they believe in the Bible and its teachings
-they believe Jesus died for our sins and that he rose from the dead
-they believe people who accept Christ and live his commandments are saved
Is anything else really necessary to be considered Christian? Sure, they have some of their own extraneous beliefs that many other Christians don't agree with, (Book of Mormon, Joseph Smith, etc.) but I don't think that invalidates their Christianity. The Mormon friends and acquaintances I've known have generally been good examples of trying to live like Christ would. They even have Jesus's name in the full name of their church. So IMO they definitely are.
Source: have had multiple Mormon friends and have talked to them multiple times about their religion.
