John Walker screwed them up by keeping the 'desgregation' (i.e., no more 'community based' schools) lawsuits going as long as he could to pad his nest. Forced busing drove those affluent enough to move to move out of the public schools and county district.
No way of setting up 'feeder programs' for your high schools when you don't know where the kids will be going to school. You can't install your system prior to getting them in high school, and you're not even sure to keep most of the kids for three years.
I thought Scooter Register going to Central would be a litmus test to see if it was possible to restore the LR public schools to prominence. Largely, the answer is no, he hasn't been able to.

Scooter is a good coach...but Reed followed him at El Dorado and has done more with that program than his predecessor ever did.
Now, I think I see the problem and agree with you. So basically, Little Rock doesn't have set school districts within itself then? So "A" high school isn't fed by "A" middle school, and "A" middle school isn't fed by "A" elementary school? Am I understanding correctly?
That makes absolutely no sense if I'm understanding correctly. Football aside, it seems like a huge cost in busing kids wherever.
I've lived in Dallas and Abilene in Texas. In Abilene, a city of 120k+, they have two inner city public schools districts. Abilene Cooper and Abilene High. One side of the city goes to Cooper and the other Abilene High. Each district has their own elementary and middle schools. There is also one public school on the south side of town. Abilene Wylie. This is where a lot of the "money" has moved and it's a good school district. Just as the other two, they have their own feeder schools.
Abilene High is 6A in athletics, Cooper is 5A, and Wylie is 4A.
It doesn't make sense if Little Rock does it differently really.
