Can't wait to hear that the defense has been simplified and that the defenders are really catching on, playing hard, trusting each other and meshing as a unit more than ever before.

Safety Rudy Ford did not participate in drills. He is sick, a team spokesman told AL.com. This comes on the heels of safety Tray Matthews (shoulder) and defensive back Jeremiah Dinson sitting out the entire spring.

Newcomer Kyle Davis, a receiver, and Stanton Truitt worked at kick return.Marcus Davis, Ryan Davis, Jason Smith and Javaris Davis worked punt return.

First team offensive line, from left to right: Robert Leff, Alex Kozan, Austin Golson, Braden Smith and Darius James.

Tyler Queen did throw the football today. He is coming off elbow surgery in September and is limited to 50 throws a day.

First team defensive line, from left to right: Carl Lawson, Devaroe Lawrence, Maurice Swain and Byron Cowart.

Jeremy Johnson and Sean White worked in a pair and John Franklin III and Queen worked in a pair in warmup drills at quarterback.

Tim Irvin worked at Nickel with the first-team defense.

Stephen Roberts and Nick Ruffin worked with first-team safeties.
