Agreed. But it does cast doubt. I want to know what he said to the grand jury.

I'm assuming that Bowles will be called by the State in both rape trials. If his story on the stand matches the affidavit, then all bets are off.

In all seriousness if it's suggested to you that x happened (especially as lawyers are wont to do in a case like this) you are VERY susceptible to believing in it so strongly that it becomes your memory of the event. This effect is so strong that your best friend could say something like "remember when we were 7 and shoplifted from Old Man Johnson's store? He turned about 5 shades of purple and red trying to chase us down!" and you're likely to 'remember' it.

The same is true for reading false accounts of something - you can internalize that memory.

Something as simple as a cop or therapist saying to you, "I believe your daddy did something bad to you and you don't want to remember it....I just want you to know that talking about it can help. Help me, help you" can lead to false memories that the person whole heartedly believes.

This is just one way memory can be shaped and memories implanted even unintentionally:
