Beef I agree with a lot of your comments on blending socialist ideology with capatalism with respect to healthcare. I won't go as far as saying a blended model can't work, because I think it can, but Medicare for all is not the answer and not sustainable. The one point I will nitpick though is that in your example you referenced the overhead burden on the healthcare system and how reducing the reimbursements will force companies out of business. I don't disagree with the basic premise of that statement if a govt funded model were taken too far, but CMS reduction in reimbursements has done a lot of good in forcing providers and facilities towards efficiencies and increased quality of care. Also a lot of the expenses you referenced, save the supplies, are fixed which are not the majority of expense. Professional, labor, and supply, i.e. The variable costs, are the steak and potatoes on the plate. Much of the labor in healthcare is unionized and a big part of why hospitals have a hard time reducing costs in a quick way. They simply cannot do it over night due to contracts and collective bargaining. Not all of the industry uses unionized labor but many of the biggest players do and they are between a rock and a hard place when it comes to driving down costs and keeping patients being treated. It's a complex issue to be sure. It's going to take time. My $0.02.
