Very simply, you can't compete year in/year out with a gimmick, option offense (that most teams have figured out by now) and an inconsistent defense that is bottom tier of the SEC. Also, Auburn hasn't had a truly good quarterback since Cam.

Nick Marshall was incredible. He ran that offense incredibly well.

Marshall was very good for that offense. No he wasn't a great passer, but he ran that offense very well. It was their defense in 2014 that let them down.

I disagree that it's a gimmick. It's how football was played generations ago. The quarterback didn't pass it, he ran it. Auburn problem recently has been defense.
