It's not battered wife syndrome. It's actually one thing they can legitimately blame on Bama. They're "loyal to a fault" because they live in Bama's shadow and don't want to show the slightest cracks in their unwavering support because they see it as leaving themselves vulnerable.

There's a reason LSU and Arkansas -- as seen, for example, on TigerDroppings and Hogville -- are the two SEC fanbases that struggle the most with negativity from a sizable portion of their fans. Since they don't have in-state competion, they don't feel as obligated to maintain the facade.

AU fans do a superb job of galvanizing the fanbase in the wake of turmoil inside their program. One little crack in the armor and the sunshine pumpers go into overtime cover up mode.
