Philly is a lot closer to Starkville than Hattiesburg. And that wouldn't have been the only reason even if it were true. Ole Miss was pretty awful in the late 70's and USM had a run going against State.

Marcus showed up on the USM campus riding in a new Maroon Oldsmobile Toronado during his disappearance. The day it was reported on the national news that he had enrolled at USM. I walked out of the registrars office and found myself in the background of a national news broadcast on the steps of the building. I was disappointed I didn't make an appearance in the 30 for 30 show.

Wide Receiver Louis Lipps was also at USM during that time. NFL Offensive Rookie of the year and a couple Pro Bowls as a Steeler.
