Alabama got star DL Isaiah Buggs after homestate LSU made a late push
Isaiah Buggs
School: Mississippi Gulf Coast CC (Ruston, La.)
Position: Defensive end
Height/weight: 6-foot-5, 280 pounds
Also considered: LSU
247Sports composite ranking: Buggs is a four-star recruit, rated as the No. 2 JUCO prospect nationally, the No. 1 defensive end and No. 1 prospect from Louisiana.
How he fits into Alabama's plans: Buggs made some bad JUCO offensive tackles look worse on his highlight tape over the last two years. He made 134 tackles in 2015 and 2016, including 15 for loss and 7.5 sacks. Alabama has benefited from JUCO defensive line transfers like Terrance Cody, Quinton Dial, Jesse Williams and others. There is a definite need to replenish the front line in 2017, so his addition to the class is huge.
Projection for 2017: Alabama lost Jonathan Allen and Dalvin Tomlinson on the defensive line along with pass rushing linebackers Tim Williams and Ryan Anderson. Two years of college experience is a help for a plug-and-play situation with Buggs. He's also among the 12 early enrollees who'll get significant experience this March and April adjusting to a higher level of play. But he'd figure to be part of the rotation by September if he progresses as expected.

5-star Jerry Jeudy continues South Florida pipeline of WRs to Alabama
Jerry Jeudy
School: Deerfield Beach (Pompano Beach, Fla.)
Position: Receiver
Height/weight: 6-foot-1, 160 pounds
Also considered: Florida, Florida State, Tennessee, Miami
247Sports composite ranking: Jeudy is a five-star recruit, rated as the No. 21 prospect nationally, the No. 3 receiver and No. 5 prospect from Florida.
How he fits into Alabama's plans: Stop me if this sounds familiar, but Alabama landed a top-end receiver talent from South Florida. Jeudy follows in the tradition of Amari Cooper and good friend Calvin Ridley to join the Crimson Tide receivers. He has nice height but could afford to add some muscle weight. Enrolling in January is a good step to be the right build for August and September to roll around.
Projection for 2017: There appears to be opportunity with leading receiver Calvin Ridley back, but most of the top targets from 2016 departing. The next three leading receivers -- ArDarius Stewart, O.J. Howard and Gehrig Dieter -- are gone. That leaves Cam Sims, Trevon Diggs as the top receivers back for Jalen Hurts. Enrolling in January will give Jeudy time to work on chemistry with Jalen Hurts. This was a good year to be a top receiving talent arriving early.
