Disagree. I stated my opinion that the Civil War was the beginning of American influence on the world.

No, you said it was "cemented by the civil war". Had you said (as you did here) that it was the beginning I wouldn't have challenged the statement one bit.

How has that worked out for us?

Most Constitutionalists of the day didn't want us involved in foreign wars ... yet we ended up doing too much of that IMHO.

Southerns were definitely against American Imperialism ... but after your precious civil war we became just that, American Imperialists controlled by big money corporate interests.

And now we find ourselves where we are today.
