Yep, I believe the jazz musician Wynton Marsales is behind most of it ... along with a lot of transplanted yankees, at least from what I've read.
They don't even want the statue to be allowed to be auctioned off or stored somewhere until they can figure what to do with it. Rather, they want the statue melted down and they want the "tainted" marble it stood upon reduced to rubble.
They want, and apparently are going to get, Lee Circle re-designated something else to honor Louis Armstrong, Andrew Jackson, Mahalia Jackson and Fats Domino.

Won't be him. As soon as they are allowed to destroy this history, the statues of Jackson, and Bienville are next.
I say replace Lee, with a statue of Mitch. That way New Orleanian, for generations, can learn from our mistakes.

Andrew Jackson isn't much better than RELee if we're going on solely the reasons they want the original statue removed
