Just for clarification, Pearl is around Jackson.
There are no casinos.

No there aren't. You're thinking of Pearl River Resort, the Indian casino in Philadelphia, MS it's not close to Pearl.
There's plenty to do in Jackson depending on what the OP enjoys doing. There's bars downtown and over by the Medical School. Hal and Mals, F Jones, Fondren Public, Danny's Gentleman's club, Babe's, Shuckers is a fun bar out by the reservoir. Lot of good restaurants in Madison/Ridgeland area. Pearl has typical chain restaurants, not sure of anything unique but there's some good place downtown Jackson and over in the Madison/Ridgeland area.

The last speeding ticket I got was in Pearl, MS. The cop was kind of an a-hole about it.
You're lucky you weren't arrested for speeding in Pearl.

For the OP, this post had a bunch of very good suggestions. Hal and Mal's at the top, in my opinion. Check their calendar to see if they have any live bands during your Pearl visit. The missus and I went there to see Kevin Costner's band a few years ago and they were surprisingly good.
If you're looking to throw money away at casinos, Vicksburg (~50 miles) is the closest. Ameristar in particular has free shows fairly often with not-terrible bands. And the Vicksburg Convention Center occasionally hosts popular comedians, so you might want to look into that. We've gone there to see Larry the Cable Guy and Ron White.
