Conservation of Mass. Can't create or destroy it (well...mostly but we need not consider nuclear reactions here). So the carbon the plants used to make sugars come from the CO2 they breathe in. So the termites "creating" CO2 are really just part of the cycle of CO2 to sugar to CO2.

Humans remove and convert it as well. We dont make it out of thin air. It still comes from the earth. What studies show the levels of co2 released by nonhuman means?
