I have a feeling it is much different.

losing five straight games while the other team wins 2 national titles is much different than losing 5 straight games while the other wins 3 national titles? I mean it's really not much different at all, but sure

Well, actually it is different in one pretty significant way.

During the timeframe you mentioned (except for 2005), we knew we sucked again well before November rolled around.

Well, it's different because the coach during 4 of those 5 games was Mike Shula and our new coach was Nick Saban.

I didn't think we'd blast LSU out of the water, but I had a pretty good feeling that the status quo would not be continuing. I surely didn't anticipate this sort of run, but I thought we'd be competing at the top of the SEC pretty quickly and have the same caliber of athletes as LSU.

To contrast, at the end of 2006 (4 years and 1 national title w/ Mike Shula) I had none of those expectations.

We were losing 5 straight games to every halfway decent team we played during that period.
