Not really. In fact, the difference isn't that great at all.

Nebraska was in the Big 8 until 1996. That's two seasons without having the opportunity to play in a conference championship (potential top 5 opponent). Alabama also gets an "extra" top 5 opponent by playing Michigan State in this year's Playoffs.
