Jones is the same as one of his coaching mentors, Mark Gottfried. Simple as that. He will win games, coach NBA players, go to NCAA Tournaments, etc. But his teams will make you want to kick puppies and will break your heart in the tournament or down the stretch.

That isn't a terrible thing. We tend to love guys who "get the most out of their guys" (Mark Fox) and finish 20-12 more than guys who sign NBA players and are inconsistent (J. Jones) and finish 20-12. It's just the way it goes. If Gottfried had kept winning 22 games and going to NCAA Tournaments he'd still be our coach (and I'd still punch walls during half our games). However, he started losing and then all bets were off.

That's fair, and as long as Jones can get LSU consistently in the NCAA tournament with a nice tournament run here and there, most fans will be just fine with that. now if someone like Pearl or Johnson could consistently get Auburn or Bama to Sweet 16's, all bets are off and LSU would shoot for better.

Tony Bennett's wife is a BR native, and he wanted the job when he was at Wazzu; not sure about now though.
