Do you propose this is the work of the demiurge like the gnostics did? BTW, if you don't know what that means then I do suggest reading up on them. They align quite well with your point of view. Also, this is another good source for beginners (not perfect but it has a lot of primary texts and helps you begin to understand the various groups): LINK Just keep in mind there are a ton of different groups that fall under the category of gnosticism (from those who resemble nothing you've ever seen/read about to those who are very close to ancient mainstream Christians like the Valentinians who trace their lineage to the Apostle Paul) so if you see a source that implies or says outright "the gnostics practiced X" as though all of them did ignore it because the likelihood of it being universal is next to nil.

Damn. In this sea of crap and troll posts, we find this gem, an actual thought-provoking, interesting post that we might learn something. Kudos. And thank you.

Thanks! :D

As far as gnosticism goes, have you ever heard of the Gospel of Thomas? That's one of the texts associated with them and it's contemporary with the gospels that made it into official canon (the bible).
