Ok, I've made my selections for OC/DC

I know you guys have been on pins and needles...
OC Chip Lindsey- Big time turnaround at Southern Miss in his first year there. Balanced offense. Led CUSA in rushing. QB coaching background and southern recruiting ties.
DC Tosh Lupoi- Ace recruiter. That's about all that needs to be said here. Was at Bama last year. I'm not too concerned with Xs and Os with Odom in the Big chair.

I have a hard time seeing Chip as an OC of a major program. But only because I was coaching against him a few years ago and now he's come so far. It just seems weird.
He does have some good southern ties though. Mainly in Alabama but some in Georgia.
Tosh on the other hand is a walking recruiting violation waiting to happen. He is the consummate bagman.

You're already onto coordinators and I've just got one foot on board with the Odom hire. Man I'm way behind.
I watched Odom's presser. I went away very impressed with HCBO. What I'm seeing now, I'm even more impressed. He's already hitting the recruiting trail. He's hot after Missouri instate recruits.
That leads me to ask the question, since he is already out recruiting, does that point to him already having coordinators in the bag? Or am I missing something? Don't have a problem with him recruiting right now, but it would seem to be hard to sell without coordinators in place.
Your opinion?

He's out recruiting because a big dead period in recruiting is about a week away.
He will get the coaches hired during that dead period for recruiting.

Are these names just on your wish list? Or is there actual chatter from decent sources?
Lindsey or Huepel would be more the fine.
Would MIZZOU fork out the cash to get Lupoi to leave Bama?

There has been chatter about both, yes.
Who knows at this point, but I'd be thrilled with these two.

What style of offense does Chip run?

I suppose, but still would be a challenege to sell Mizzou and the program without your DC and OC in place. JMO.

Not really. Whoever the DC is will run his defense. He knows exactly what kind of defense that he will run.

Interesting. That would be an unusual fit considering Mizzou doesn't really engage in those recruiting shenanigans. It might be good for him to learn from someone like Odom. And while I don't want us to become professional cheaters like some SEC programs, we could maybe learn a few things.
What is he like as a coach? I'm a little concerned about HCBO being a rookie HC and having a rookie DC. It might be better for him to find a veteran since Kul apparently isn't interested in staying, someone he can lean on a little and not have to hand-hold.

Odom will still be very much involved in the defense. It will be his defense regardless of who the DC is. Bronco Mendenhal and Saban are defensive guys that had someone run their defense. Whoever the DC is will be learning from one of the best.

Oh, no question. But would you rather have a DC who has never been DC before and will learn everything from HCBO? Or a veteran?

I'll take a recruiter. This will be Coach O's defense no matter who we hire and he'll be heavily involved. I don't mind a guy with no experience if he's an ace on the recruiting trail.

I could handle this tradeoff.
I"m ready for them to get busy and hire the assistants. We can't afford to miss time recruiting. We especially need to nail down the OC, OL, QB, DC, an DL. Coordinators are a no-brainer, we need them in place asap. We need to ID who is going to develop our OL and work with Drew Lock. And we need to solidify the DL if Kul isn't going to stay on with us.

I don't know Tosh. I just remember him getting into trouble with recruiting at Washington. Pretty sure that's why he had to go into player development at Bama.

I agree with your sense of urgency.
Time is waisting

We are coming up on a dead period soon. I think Coach O is handling this the right way. Recruit your arse off with the guys you have on staff now and fill your empty spots during the dead period.

Ah. Well, that's not good. But in comparison to the rest of the conference, Mizzou is squeaky-clean when it comes to recruiting. We don't pay cash, we don't buy cars, we don't buy houses for family members. I'm sure players get those money-handshakes, but not when they're being recruited. We could rehab him if he's a good recruiter without cheating, and a good coach.
