As a fan of good football games, I would love that. Someone earlier posted ND would get in every year === not if they got exposed in the first round two years in a row.

Since they announced they were moving to the playoff I've been saying it should be 8 teams.

5 conference champs with 3 at large bids. That way, you have a spot for ND if they have 1-2 losses, a spot for a non-P5 school who's undefeated if it happens, and a spot for someone like tOSU this year who has a case to be in with only 1 loss.

ETA: Also, a team like Stanford who wins their conference championship won't be left out either.

I think giving the P5 champs an automatic bid would also make it really advantageous to schedule more difficult OOC games.

If you play a hard OOC schedule and lose a couple, your playoff chances aren't really hurt because can still get in by winning the conference. On the flip side, if you happen to win them and then slip up in conference play those quality games would make a compelling at-large argument.
