What Smart has to do to be successful @ Georgia

We all know he is going to have Georgia's defense performing at an elite level, but what about the offense? The mistake Muschamp made at Florida was not establishing a singular offensive philosophy and building on it. Changing OCs isn't the problem, but changing philosophies is. Even more so, you have to have a single identity on how you are going to play as a team. You can tweak it here and there, but a consistent identity is the foundation of success. All Smart has to do is find that solidify his philosophy and stick with it. If he can lock down 60% of the top 10 players in Georgia every year he will have a title in the first 5 years.

quote:We don't know that. Saban isn't going with him. Even that side of the ball is an unknown. Head coaches that have never been head coaches can be easily overcome with responsibilities when they try to learn to be a hc yet continue trying to run a defense (or an offense for that matter).

Hire Bobby Williams. The key to championships is Bobby.

Win a National Championship. That's the only way Georgia fans will think he is successful.

After Muschamp, I see DC hires as pretty risky ones. Smart was always going to be an HC but if I were UGA, I would rather have gotten him after he coached a year or two as an HC.
That said, UGA has been running a similar pro-style offense to be BAMA and is also a run heavy team so that should ease some transition. He really does need to hire an OC he trusts, imo.
