Necks and backs are weird.
All my life, every year or two, a random abrupt weird movement will tweak my neck and take me to the ground in pain...and then I can barely turn my head in one direction for 3 days without feeling like I'm being stabbed in the lower neck with a molten hot knife blade.

Or sleep the wrong way and wake up with chronic pain for 48 hours.

I would strongly suggest you not play D1 football or any tackle football for that matter.
Best be careful with that golf swing.
But seriously, have you seen a doc? You need to, that shite is not normal.

I feel you on this. I initially hurt my neck lifting weights, and ever since then it's been almost like a sprained ankle...I can do most things normally (including still lifting) but my neck never feels completely healthy. Maybe once a year, I will randomly feel something "slip" in the base of my neck and it means excruciating pain whenever I move my head for the next 4 days or so. Rinse and repeat.
