Many things. The point is, no one in the world in 1933 looked at the swastka as a racist symbol. Not even the Jews. Only later did the Aryans pick up the symbol and relate it to racialism.

I understand that racism was a part of Hitler and others' issues, but the symbol wasn't there to represent get to' the Jews. It was a national symbol.

Of course that was its original intent (and actually it was--and still is in some parts of the world--a religious symbol before that).

Symbols acquire meanings/connotations far beyond their original intent over time all the time. Hell, the ubiquitous Christian cross is tantamount to a depiction of a guillotine.

Benign and/or unrelated origins don't mean that a symbol can't acquire very real and sinister other meanings to folks, ijs.
