I am not sure I understand why this rubs you guys the wrong way. Is he supposed to be more tolerant of racism on campus because his father made a lot of money? Wouldn't that just make him a sell out?

One of his demands was that the president make a public statement acknowledging his "white privilege"

No one is arguing that universities don't have their fair share of racial issues. It has everything to do with society as a whole, not higher education learning institutions.

Jonathan Butler and the student body president aren't one and the same. The students voted a gay black man as their leader. One could argue that is extremely progressive. Obviously not a sign of inherent institutional racism.

The problem is, they are combating institutional racism with more racism. One of the stipulations was to essentially elect someone of color as the next president and/or chancellor.

0% of the racial claims have any substance behind them. It's all 100% hearsay or possible propaganda. This kids family is worth over $20 million. If life was this poor for him on campus, why would he elect to stick around as a grad student. He has been a student here for like 7 years. There are too many red flags for me.

TL;DR: Racism is bad. This whole situation is bullshite.

Because he is a whiny privilaged person who is bullying people into quitting by making people believe he has been oppressed in his rich fantasy world. Bitch, please! I grew up in the hood, faced racism, and had people tell me I couldn't do go to college based on my ethnicity. Yet I grew past that without acting like a fricking baby in front of the national media. I've seen racist turn into MLK worshipers when you shine the almighty dollar to their face. So his money has not only opened doors for him, but it has given him more opportunities than most people on this board (white, black or brown).

Life is cruel and if we were to hunger strike every problem society has, we'd solve our obesity problem real fricking quick. Life is tough and racism is real, so deal with it. As a minority, I've learned that racism isn't the only type of hate, so people just have to learn that not everyone is going to like you, no matter what. The world isn't perfect and we can't all kumba-ya like some of these idiots wish we could. The reality here is that they just cost a man his job and have placed a negative light on their community. They haven't achieved shite except save money on food and tricked a few white people who need a 'feel-good' trip to go along with their shite. You want to see real oppression? Go to Africa, central America, or the Middle East. While they are in college choosing to go on hunger strikes, there are kids there who are also starving themselves, but not by choice. Now that's motherfricking systematic oppression! The entitlement of this country is absurd.
