i gotta go with hallman. sad thing is he was a solid guy and sent me a get well card when i got hurt before my senior year.
he had great recruiting classes in spite of lsu's horrible facilities. i actually stayed in the dorms inside the stadium one summer. he had some close games that he should have won, may have put him over the top. fsu one year and of course jamie howard's moment of infamy. there were some great players during the hallman years.
he never was able to overcome his inability as a gameday coach. great individual, great recruiter. hard-nosed, old school. players liked him for the most part, but he failed as a gameday coach.
if we could've put hallman and archer together we would've been ok after arnsparger(r.i.p.) left.

Your insane if you believe this. The players thought he was a fricking joke and had zero respect for him. Treated players like shite and was a complete hypocrite. Quoting the Bible one second then cussing a player out the next. Ruined his marriage when he was busted screwing a secretary. I could go on and on. The dude was trash.

I remember hearing Hallman say during SEC media day 1991 that it would take 5 years to build LSU into a good football program, since Archer couldn't recruit and the Tiger talent was so limited back then. Unfortunately Hallman was no longer around to see the Tigers' coming of age, thanks to a horrendous '94 season which included an 18-13 loss to the Aggies featuring a Tiger PUNT with just two minutes to go, the infamous Interception Game, a humiliating trouncing by Ole Miss and a comedy of errors vs. Alabama
