The state of Mississippi has benefited most from the last conference expansion. Didn't realize last place in the west was either Ole Miss or Miss. State for 11 consecutive years prior to expansion. Damn!
Since then only Auburn and Arkansas have worn that crown, with Auburn the favorite again this year.

Not sure it benefited so much from that as it did from Dan Mullen.
Especially at State but even at Ole Miss, him really putting fuel to the in state rivalry contributed to their program making positive changes.

Which makes what Jackie Sherrill did in Starkville all that much more impressive

The true blue bloods (Bama and LSU) don't have this problem.

Maybe he's right - Florida seemed to drop off some after Mullen left.

Until either State or OM win an actual real title at anything, they are just a couple of mid-level SEC non-factors with some recent decent years.

If not for Mullen, you probably wouldn't have gotten rid of Nutt when you did. He put an emphasis on the in state rivalry that wasn't there before he took the job. He put the press on the rivalry and it pushed both schools to be better IMO.

He went 0-8 in the SEC (and Mullen went 2-6) and 2-10 overall. Mullen didn't get him fired. His lazy arse did that all by itself.
