I meant this tongue in cheek:

Fire Spav and we instantly become contenders for a division crown

Obviously we'd have to hire a competent OC. But we DID become defensively legitimate overnight by firing our DC and getting one who knows what he's doing. There's $500B spent on a new stadium, paid primarily by butts in seats the first 5 years (capital contribution). We have a lot riding on having a team that shows improvement. That's well worth and extra $1M for an established OC.

Why does it seem like we're always 1-2 years away?

Because we are always 3 to 5 years away and when we don't meet those expectations nobody wants to come here and play. Thus the cycle starts over again.

I actually agree with you. We dropped 500 million on the stadium, 5/year on Sumlin, 1.6/year on Chavis... Just ante up and pay a top 5 OC 1.5. it's too late to get cheap.
