Smoking was so popular even pregnant women smoked a pack a day.

It's just what you did in those days.

The company I work with is about 30-40 yrs old. There are old file cabinets in the offices that have huge, heavy glass ashtrays in the bottom of them because the office workers all smoked at their desk back then.

Freshman year in college (2000) some of classrooms in the older buildings had ashtrays embedded in the desks. Apparently, the back two rows were the smoking rows when you could still smoke in the building.

Which wasn't that long ago. I can still remember when every mall had an ashtray about every 20 feet down the concourse.
