Lee Harvey Oswald was a weirdo from New Orleans that fell in love with Communism at the age of 15. He never graduated high school and joined the Marines at 17. He was an okay marksman, but he was obsessed with the USSR. He tried to teach himself Russian he loved it so much.
At 19 he "defected" to the USSR. Which meant he got enough money to travel to Moscow. Even they thought he was weird, and when his tourist visa expired a week later he shot himself to get attention. Then he goes to a psyche ward in Moscow, and they find out he was a Marine. The Soviets try to use this to their advantage, and there were some news stories about it, but in the end, it was insignificant. Just some weird kid with delusions of grandeur. Lee Harvey Oswald wants to be educated in Russia, but they find out he's dumb and stick him in a factory. He dates some chick for the next two years, proposes, and she rejects him. He then starts to get depressed and plans on moving back to America and writes the US Embassy in January 1961 to gtfo.
He meets some chick in March of 61 and they get married and head back to the US in June of 62. He moves to DFW. No one likes him. He's rude and arrogant, and can barely hold a job. In March of 63 he tries to kill a retired general, even leaving his wife instructions of what to do if he didn't return. Lee Harvey Oswald missed the shot from 100 feet away.
He moves to New Orleans in April of 63. Gets fired a month later. He starts to get restless and tries to form a Fair Play for Cuba Committee branch in New Orleans. He writes the headquarters and they tell him not to. He does it anyway. Starts handing out pamphlets and debating people on the radio. No one really cares.
In September of 63, he sends his wife and kids back to Dallas, while he claims he's going to stay behind and pick up an unemployment check. Instead he goes to Mexico City in order to get in to Cuba. He tried to get a transit visa via the Soviets, but they don't give it to him. He spends 5 days arguing with people at the consulates in Mexico City and the Cuban officer even claimed that people like Oswald were doing the Cuban Revolution harm. His visa does actually get granted a couple weeks later, but he had already given up and headed back to Dallas.
When he arrives in early October, a neighbor tells him of a job opening at the school book depository. He gets the job. Due to Lee Harvey Oswald's recent return to the US, a local FBI agent was assigned to investigate the family. Marina was confronted a couple of times early that November at their home while Lee Harvey Oswald was working and Lee Harvey Oswald was so mad he threatened to blow up the FBI office in Dallas.
On November 21, Lee Harvey Oswald, who was staying at a hotel during the week in Dallas for his job, asked for an unusual lift back to Irving by the guy that drove him to and from work. He said he was picking up curtain rods. It was actually the rifle.
The next morning he returned to his job in Dallas but left behind his wedding ring and some cash. At about 12:30, he fired three shots from the sixth floor at the motorcade and stashes the gun. Walks downstairs, is confronted by a cop, but a coworker vouches for him. He leaves before the police lock down the building. Grabs a bus to head back to his boarding room. Traffic sucks. He gets off and gets in a cab. Grabs a gun and a jacket when he arrives and heads out the door.
At 1:15. Officer JD Tippit in his patrol car spots Lee Harvey Oswald a mile away from his boarding room on foot. Confronts him as he matches a description of the assassin. JD Tippit is killed by 4 shots from Lee Harvey Oswald's revolver.
At 1:40, Lee Harvey Oswald is noted to have slipped in to Texas Theater without paying by a near by store owner. The police arrive. Lee Harvey Oswald says, "well it's all over now", and seems like he is surrendering, but tries to shoot Officer Nick McDonald. The revolver hammer gets caught between the webbing in Lee Harvey Oswald's hand and he is disarmed.
He is arrested and arraigned for the murders of JD Tippit and John F Kennedy later that night. Over the next two days he is interrogated, easily caught in many lies, all while refusing lawyers that aren't associated with the Communist Party.
On November 24, Jack Ruby, a dweeb in his own right, shoots Lee Harvey Oswald. Most that know him realize Jack Ruby had spent his whole life trying to make a name for himself and was never able to. He thought killing Lee Harvey Oswald would finally gain him favor with the police and the mafia. Rotting with cancer in a jail cell, Jack Ruby makes many claims about being framed, but like the rest of his life, they were never more than talk. He had nothing to lose and would have gotten the fame he so desired but never had anything to say.
There was no conspiracy. Just a couple of dweebs and a lucky shot.

President Lyndon Baines Johnson, the Man who proceded Kennedy says there was a conspiracy in the July 1973 issue of The Atlantic.
Johnson knew he was dying and there wasn't anything they could do to him anymore.

Thanks for the read. Sometimes dumb people succeed in their goals. It seems a lack of glamor can fuel conspiracy theories.

At the end of the day, every conspiracy theory eventually arrives at the point where an unsubstantiated assumption must be made in order for it to work. Not one theory, other than the lone gunman, is fully explained by facts in evidence,
In such a case, where assumptions must be made, the only logical move is to believe the theory with the fewest assumptions. That is that Harbey acted alone, essentially the "null" hypothesis here.
At the end of the day, every conspiracy theory eventually arrives at the point where an unsubstantiated assumption must be made in order for it to work. Not one theory, other than the lone gunman, is fully explained by facts in evidence,
