Tennessee has led the series since 1969 and now it's all tied up at 21 wins apiece from what wiki has listed. It 'kinda bounced back and forth until the 1990's when UT reeled off 11 straight victories and now we have climbed back into it. A few big games have taken place outside of the one everybody knows about.

quote:

In the 2001 game (the Hobnail Boot game), Tennessee was ranked #6 as it faced UGA coach Mark Richt for the first time. The lead was traded multiple times, but Tennessee had seemingly won the game on a 62 yard touchdown pass with only 44 seconds remaining to take a 24–20 lead. Georgia quarterback David Greene would take the Bulldogs down the field and threw a touchdown pass to Verron Haynes with 6 seconds left to upset Tennessee 26–24. Legendary Georgia radio announcer Larry Munson in an famous call exclaimed, "We just stepped on their face with a hobnail boot and broke their nose! We just crushed their face!".

In 2004, #17 Tennessee ended the back to back SEC Eastern Division Champions 17 game home winning streak with a shocking upset, 19–14. The victory propelled the Volunteers to the SEC Eastern Division Championship, and knocked #3 UGA out of the national title picture.

In 2007, unranked Tennessee ran all over #12 Georgia in Knoxville early, en route to a 35–14 victory. Georgia and Tennessee would finish the season tied for the SEC Eastern Division, but Tennessee's head-to-head victory allowed the Vols to advance to Atlanta for the SEC Championship Game which they lost. The Bulldogs would finish the season ranked #2, the loss preventing them from advancing to the BCS National Championship Game while Tennessee finished #14.

Tennessee has done equal or more in keeping a BCSCG trophy outside of Athens than Alabama, it's a big game one circled on each others calendar and the winner gets series bragging rights.

well that's certainly not true.

I mean, I don't know about the alabama part but they haven't really done much to keep it out of athens aside from 1 season, in which there is equal blame to go around between them and SC.

Jeez UT fans have been beaten into the ground. UT/UF week we couldn't post anything with out the 11essee fans coming in and telling us that we were done and it was over.

Now it's like they never existed. It feels like UT and UGA aren't even playing this week.

You sure about that? You might be thinking of 1993.

One of my best friends is a UGA fan lifer and we've been able to make each other appreciate the reasons each fan base is passionate about each team.

We were both hoping this game this year would feature a couple of teams with only a loss or two combined and make it a huge matchup. It looks like it will continue to be a bit of an after thought even though I think it will end up being an entertaining game.

Both coaches have a lot of pressure on them but TN has a bit less in my opinion as a team.

So I think it will be a fun one.

THey went so many years and played so sparingly. It has become one of the great series in the SEC since 92 though. That first game after the expansion in 92 was maybe the best game so far. Garrison Hearst and Heath Shuler put on a show that day. Another great move by the SEC was annually pitting UT-UF. Those have been some super duels over the years.
