South Carolina’s Assistant Head Coach for Defense is engaging, gives long and involved answers and is confident he has the answer for the type of players needed to build a successful college football program.

While it means doing extensive homework, Thompson is confident it can and will be done at USC.

“At the end of the day you turn on the tape, you want to see a football player,” said Thompson who coached linebackers at Auburn last season. “But you can’t have a lot of small guys. You can’t have a lot of slow guys. You want a lot of big guys that are fast.

“It’s not rocket science. I think the personality, the chemistry, is huge. I think the messaging, the way you view your team psychologically, that’s huge.”
