I like this hire. He's from the Gainesville, FL area, but spent part of a very long 14 yr NFL career in JAX and ATL. He has the Mike Peterson Foundation, which is a charitable organization for poor students, still active in JAX, ATL and Gainesville.
He'll be a guy that can tell the recruits, "I know what it takes to be All SEC, All American, a low round draft pick, and have a 14 year career in the NFL, b/c I did it."
He already got his feet wet with coaching at florida a couple years ago.
We'll have to see how he does as a recruiter, but someone who's had a kids charity for over a decade has to already have the ability to speak to and mentor the youths.

quote:
COLUMBIA – Spend a few minutes with Lance Thompson and it is easy to understand why he is considered one of the nation’s best recruiters.
South Carolina’s Assistant Head Coach for Defense is engaging, gives long and involved answers and is confident he has the answer for the type of players needed to build a successful college football program.
While it means doing extensive homework, Thompson is confident it can and will be done at USC.
“At the end of the day you turn on the tape, you want to see a football player,” said Thompson who coached linebackers at Auburn last season. “But you can’t have a lot of small guys. You can’t have a lot of slow guys. You want a lot of big guys that are fast.
“It’s not rocket science. I think the personality, the chemistry, is huge. I think the messaging, the way you view your team psychologically, that’s huge.”

I like the Peterson hire a lot. He was a great Falcon, played hard every game, and was essentially a coach on the field. He was lauded as being exceptionally bright by that Falcons staff. Should see Skai exceed under his tutelage.
