LSU did it in 2011. Forget the rematch against Bama a second, and review the schedule again: LSU beat Oregon (Pac 12 champ), West Virginia (won the Orange Bowl, Big East champ?), Alabama (ranked 1 or 2, eventually won title in rematch), Arkansas (ranked #3 behind LSU and Bama in the last game of the regular season), and Georgia (ranked in top 10, 10 win team, SEC East champ).
And thoroughly destroyed the rest of the SEC teams they faced.

Nobody else in college football has done anything approaching that; going into the bowl game, LSU was having maybe the best college season ever. And they lost to a conference opponent in the rematch.
