The more I think about it, the more I believe that Long didn't get outmaneuvered on that contract but rather he was simply desperate to lock down a coach who everyone thought at the time had this program turning the corner with 17-0, 30-0 and the Texas Bowl.

Whether or not you think Bert is the right guy for the job, it's undeniable that the quickest way to dynamite a program is to cycle through coaches every 3 or 4 years, and you need only look at Tennessee to see proof of that. Heck, no wonder BA is damaged goods in crunch time, he's on his 3rd fricking head coach in 5 years.
