Just wanted to say that it's been a fun few years here on Cockytalk and I've
had the pleasure of making a lot of really good "net friends" here over the
last ten years. Had the very distinct pleasure of meeting a lot of you in person
and for all you that I have thanks for sharing the pleasantries and part of
your personal life. Thanks to Chuck and Ken for letting me help out with the
site for so long. For the mods (Johnny, Retrick, Christian, Tim, Rick, Dirk,
Billy, Jen, Brandon and for my long lost buds Jason and Gary) you guys hold
it down. Keep doing the remarkable job you guys do here.
I joined the site in 2005 and immediately found it to be a place where I could
come and talk and "Discuss" Gamecock Sports, Music and generally anything
and do so in a mature and at times, humorous manner. The board's atmosphere
was fantastic even in the lean years. Found out that the smaller membership
core at that time had a lot in common, but more importantly, when there
were differences it was handled in the discussions with respect among
members here. In short..... it was Fun.
The past few years (since the membership has grown to what it is now) the
attitude of the site has changed drastically. Even in the face of the stretch
of years where all Gamecock Sports has experienced it's greatest string
of wins, improvements and even a couple of National titles, there is an air
of rudeness and aggression in the discussions here now that make it hard to
carry on a mature conversation or discussion. There's still a group of members
who make it enjoyable but those few are far between now.
I apologize to any of you that I've offended with any of my words or actions
here. Thanks for the hundreds who made it fun for me here over the years
but at this time .... It's just not fun anymore.
Later guys and gals
It sucks that the largest USC board that doesn't have an access fee is moderated by a bunch of gigantic pussies.
I bet he is the joker that banned me for simply saying Thompson sucks. I guess hes not as bad as the count face that perma-banned me for complaining about it though

I always liked his practice reports, post game observations and he had a lot of great farks. I never had a problem with him. He posts on this site too, just not this board. I'm pretty sure he is our hidden mod.

Pretty sure he posts exclusively on the Fark Board. Not sure if he lurks others or not.
The practice reports were alright but I quit reading them a few years ago and took them with a grain of salt because I remember him saying how great Tommy Beecher was gonna be.
But the censorship is off the charts ridiculous. And now that they are letting coaching discussions take place (apparently they were deleting all of the threads before this week) he decides that hes just not gonna be in that type of "negative" environment

As a fan base, for a long time we relished being the lovable loser. Now that we have seen a bit of success, there has been a real divide among supporters. You have those of us who don't want to go back to how things were and want us to step it up, and then there are those who are just happy to have had a few good years and think we should just be thankful for them. They are totally willing to go back to being lovable losers, and they refuse to say anything negative about the program and coaches. They get upset if anyone says anything critical, no matter how valid the comment, so they want to take their ball and go home. Not exclusively, but it tends to break down on the age line. Personally, I think if we as fans go back to accepting mediocrity and remaining silent, we deserve what we get. If the fans don't demand giving 100% from the administration and coaches, then they won't give it. Football is a business and if you will support and take whatever they give you, why would they work to their maximum?

It's time for Rooster to tell us about the Board Wars.
High time.
Now more than ever.

ALL OF THIS.
There is a large contingent of fans that take the "aw shucks, we should just be happy to be *in* the SEC" mentality. They have accepted mediocrity for so long, that it's become the one hallmark of the Carolina football program.
You see some of that among fans of other schools. They don't understand how we can be frustrated with Spurrier (and assume his lack of success is due to the program), when he was so good at UF. My biggest issue with college football is this belief that because a school was good in the 70s, it should be good now, and vice versa. This is bullshite. USC is the biggest school in the state, it's in the best conference in the country, the alumni base is hungry (and largely young, due to how much the enrollment has grown in 15 years), there is plenty of D-1 talent within 300 miles, and there's plenty of money flowing through the athletic department. There's no reason AT ALL for this program not to be consistently in the hunt for the division title. None.
Get Beamer on the phone, and give him the keys.

frick Cockytalk.
I was banned for arguing with a mod after I posted that I heard Jarvis Giles was going to leave if Lattimore came to USC in '09. He said "quit starting rumors" and the rest of the board attacked the idea that Giles would transfer.
Sure enough - it happened. Was on there for a whole 2 weeks before I was banned.

Yes. Yes. Yes.
Like you said, I've noticed the difference between younger Gamecock fans and older Gamecock fans. The younger fans are the loudest critics of the program right now.. We're the ones being attacked and called bandwagon fans by the older fans (The fans that are so quick to scream at us how they're real fans because they sat in the Upper deck at WillyB during the 0-11 season). It doesn't always break down like this age-wise.. but the majority of the time it does.
It's nice that older fans were there when Carolina was mediocre, and will continue be behind the program 100% no matter what.. but younger fans are not going to sit back quietly and let Carolina return to mediocrity.
As far as CockyTalk... I like it but I typically just lurk on the football board, people can be way too aggressive on that board. I spend most of my time on the basketball board. There are plenty of people there posting about the men's team so myself and a few others do what we can to keep people over there up to date with what's going on with the women's team..

I don't have a problem with people supporting the coaching staff. If they've got the opinion that Spurrier can turn it around then that's their opinion.
But the inability to be critical of the team coaches or players on that website is ridiculous. And the fact that that criticism being allowed is the reason Spurticus refuses to be a mod is hysterical.
He's not wrong about there being a bunch of mouth breathers on the site though, but he was fine when only the sunshine pumpers weren't censored

Cocktalk was a spinoff of the board wars that ended in 2005. That one and a couple of others. Order of the Spur and another one, I can't remember off the top of my head.
My Son told me he thought Cocktalk was tied-in with Gamecock Central somehow?
I cannot remember the last time I went to Gamecock Central to read anything. It's been years and years though. The Scout site died after 2005. At one time it was by far the biggest Gamecock site out there. I visit the 24/7 site from time to time, but not often.
The clash of personalities happens on forums. Emotions and all that. I'm glad I wasn't around for the post-UGA melt last week, I probably would have been the worst.
As far as the age differences being the issue, I'm not sure that's really the case anymore than it is in everyday life between generations. We older guys want the wins too, and championships, but we've seen it all at this stage and we probably get over it faster and take everything into account maybe, I dunno.
If we start winning, beginning with a win over Mizzou on the road, attitudes will start changing for the positive again. It's an ebb and flow thing. But I agree, time is drawing near for Coach Spurrier, and he knows it. I just hope he gets to go-out on a positive note. He's earned the chance to make that happen.
