Beamer was essentially fired by Spurrier, and that he didn't leave on great terms- much like Jay Graham, who was expecting to get the recruiting coordinator gig, but was passed over for Jr. This was a repost with Morrell confirming the account.

Can we just go ahead and fire Spurrier instead of praying that he retires?

They won't fire him unless he completely bottoms out, below not making a bowl game even. I don't think that's going to happen.
We didn't have the easiest stretch of opening games and we're still trying to find how the players fit. We could still put forth a decent product if the right adjustments are on the way. A bunch of asst coaches contracts are up after this season, and we'll see some new asst coaches. I still think Spurrier is capable of turning the ship, but I'll revaluate that game by game.
Plus, we shouldn't just fire him mid season without the other chips in place. We need to have the right feelers out and the right handshake deals made, and then let the chips fall.
