No way Marquise Williams regressed that bad. He was the exact cause for them not winning that game though. Can't really take away much from South Carolina other than their pass rush looked a bit better. Run defense hasn't changed for either team. Mitch is definitely still an unknown, but watching him tonight, he looked Anthony Jennings bad. He does have Pharoah Cooper though, which he will need every game. Don't know what to believe about Carson considering this was his best game by far of his career, but he looked good on his limited carries. I say start him next week against UK.

Utah/Michigan
Utah is a decent team and was a decent team even before the season started. Michigan continues to have a good defense, especially the rush defense. Michigan lost by 16 to Utah at home last year, so losing by 7 on the road is an improvement. I actually think they should have tried Shane Morris or Speight. Morris has wheels, both have a cannon and if RS senior Rudock is already throwing 3 picks (he only threw 5 last year), then why not get your young guy up to snuff this year so you can go into next year with some confidence at QB? The OL is still awful though. Can't understand why? Devon Smith still has no vision when there was a hole, and didn't see enough of Issac and Green to make an honest assessment.

TCU/Minnesota
The gophers had a pretty decent team last year and was one of the only ones to play OSU close to the very end. TCU was the epitome of rusty first game though. Way too much firepower and experience at every position on offense to only put up 23 points (9 coming from FGs). Boykin looked like the only star out there. I'm already lol'ing at Big 10 fans pumping their chests all over the Internet tonight. They think because Big 12 power TCU played a bad game against a middle of the road Big 10 team, that they would suck for the year. Doesn't work like that.

Vanderbilt/WKU
Spotty QB play by Vandy, but I liked the defensive play. They held a high powered offense that returned every starting skill player to 14 points. I'd be lying to you if I said I actually watched this game, but I did look at the highlights and a recap. Not enough tape to actually judge offensive play other than they looked not different from last year (which is a problem). WKU was 123 of 128 in total defense last year. They gave up 290 passing, 220 rushing, and 40 points on average last year. Now let me say that this could just be a young Vandy offense working out the kinks as several QBs were turnover crazy today. Vandy is still a work in progress.

Other notes:
Wake Forest even though it was against FCS Elon, MAN, did that look improved from last year. The 203 rush yards they got in that game were twice as much as their best game last year. That 203 yards is already 42% of their entire rushing yardage last year. That QB, now that he has a year under his belt, can hopefully at least give the fans something to watch. They also passed for nearly a 100 more than their best game from last year. They scored almost twice as much as their best game last year.

On that same token, don't jump the gun on GT's play against FCS Alcorn St. Although they were the only team to score more than 48 points yesterday, they were also one of only 2 Power 5 teams to play against an FCS school yesterday, with Wake Forest being the other. Wake Forest won 41-3, GT 69-6.

That was a good analysis of the various games.
