For Mizzou, I'm going to say Al Onofrio:

Yes, it's weird saying a coach with a losing record shouldn't have been fired, but:

1. followed the legendary Dan Devine so had tough shoes to follow in.
2. played brutal schedules and got big wins over Alabama, Ohio State, Joe Montana & ND, Southern Cal, and the Bugeaters (Nebraska)to name a few.
3. Could flat out recruit - Warren Powers followed him up and had great success with his players at first, but saw his program go downhill once he ran out of Al's players.
4. Tied to recruiting, but had great ties across the state of MO. It took until Gary Pinkel to finally rebuild the goodwill & recruiting in MO.

Who Mizzou probably should have held on to: Frank Broyles. Only here one year and left for Arky. Luckily, the guy Mizzou got after Broyles was Dan Devine, so it actually worked out well.
