He is a very good QB. Not sure what he has around him though.

Herein lies the problem for many SEC fans that concentrate their attention only on their own team's talent. (I recommend spending some time looking closely at the talent on the opposition.)

With most of his receivers returning, an older roster (age, numbers of letters, class), and a couple of pretty good running backs including a freshman who was rated .91 or so, about the 10th in the country last year... I see State's offense possibly or even probably being better this year than last. And don't think that if Dak gets hurt, they are finished. His backup looks (on paper) to be pretty good.

Defensively, State has always fielded a tough unit and on paper they look senior-ish, and solid. If there is a question about State this year, here is where it probably lies...how this unit gels and how their linebackers perform. Secondary looks pretty stout.

Alabama's games with them have always been extremely physical going back to the 1960's (and I remember a MS QB named Stacy, back in the 1950s who was really really good...).

From things I have read, their OL is a big concern. That is where the ability of an O begins.

I'm glad we're carrying around a shite preseason ranking right now. Mullen's offense is going to be monster this year.

Slightly off subject, but...turns out Stacy was probably State's all time best QB.

Bless the information age - I saw Stacy play against Florida when I was a teenager and remember him as tall, rail-thin, and impressive, but never knew what happened to him. At that time there were very few games on TV and no information on teams such as MS. Here is what I found....for those interested.

See Wikipedia

Billy McGovern Stacy (born July 30, 1936 in Drew, Mississippi) is a former American professional football player who played five seasons in the National Football League for the Chicago/St. Louis Cardinals. He was selected to one Pro Bowl. Was the mayor of Starkville, MS.[1]
